‘Love Hurts’ was released in 1975.Â
Performed as a power ballad, the Nazareth recording turned out to be the most popular version of the song (written by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant) and the only rendition of ‘Love Hurts’ to become a hit single in the United States.
The record reached #1 in Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa and Norway where it charted for 61 weeks including 14 weeks at #1, making it the top single of all time in that country.
Worldwide, ‘Love Hurts’ is listed at #28 on the ‘Most Epic Songs Ever’.
We have no idea how many turntables all over the world were spinning with ‘Love Hurts’ since it’s release or how many happy and heartbreaking moments were created for people while listening to this record but we got a rough idea by checking the numbers as told by Spotify (only one of the many streaming platforms) that officially went online in 2008.
(33 years after the release of ‘Love Hurts’)
For Spotify alone … All time streams : 247,448,825 … last 12 months : 49,535,585 … last month : 3,863,069 … and more than a million last week.
It makes us dizzy to even try supplementing these numbers for the whole 50 years while adding all the different providers on top!
Anyway, it looks like around a million of you guys are going to be listening to our ‘Love Hurts’ this week so we would like to thank you in advance and hope it becomes the backing track to a million happy moments.
